MD Flacks Ltd. was founded by Marcus and Debby Flacks in early 1995 and opened at 38 East 57th Street in October of that year. MD Flacks is a gallery that specialises in Chinese Furniture of the highest quality from the Ming and early Qing dynasties (17th – 18th Centuries). As well as Classical Chinese Furniture in precious hardwoods such as Huanghuali and Zitan, MD Flacks were also one of the first dealers to expound the virtues of high quality pieces in lesser known timbers (such as; Tieli, Nanmu, Walnut and Jumu) and held an exhibition in 1998 “Woods of China” introducing many of these to western collectors.
MD Flacks have also been one of very few dealers in the world to show examples of the often-ignored area of Stone Furniture having shown and handled some of the most important examples to have come onto the market.
Another area that MD Flacks have greatly concentrated on has been that of rare and important Scholar’s Objects having always included excellent examples in all their exhibitions, as well mounting a series of dedicated exhibitions entitled “Small Wonders”.
A personal love of sculpture has led to the occasional masterpiece being spotted in the gallery and they have also mounted a number of exhibitions of contemporary Chinese art primarily drawings by Dajing Qian.
Over the past 13 years MD Flacks have mounted more than 20 exhibitions producing over a dozen catalogues and were founding exhibitors of the Asian Art Fair in New York where they exhibited for 9 years. Clients include many important private collections in America, Europe and Asia as well as Museums.
